4S Ranch
Over time, certain traditions have a way of coming back into favor. Like hometowns for instance. With its quiet tree-lined neighborhoods, homes with front porches and walkable promenades, 4S Ranch is modeled after California's finest traditional communities. Located on 2,900 acres adjacent to Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch will feature 4,715 homes clustered around 4S Commons, a traditional town center. Additional amenities planned include four neighborhood schools, a variety of parks, miles of walking trails and more than 1,600 acres of protected open space.

Beginning with the earliest Native American inhabitants, the land that is now 4S Ranch historically has been an important place for families to gather, commerce to grow and nature to thrive. 4S Ranch was originally homesteaded in 1842 by Joseph Snook, a British sea captain. In 1938, the property was purchased by Albert Ralphs, head of the Los Angeles-based grocery store chain. Under the continuing guidance of the Ralphs family, history lives on through the ranch's ongoing cattle and agricultural operations. At 4S Ranch, the traditions established by the generations of landowners that raised their families, welcomed their guests and protected the surrounding natural resources here will proudly be continued. --Reprinted courtesy of Newland Communities
